The taste and quality awards Athens Fine Food Awards (AFFA) 2023  ceremony has been successfully concluded.

At a special ceremony organized on Monday 20 March 2023 at the model academy “HotelBrain Academy”, the big winners and the list of products awarded with AFFA 2023 stars were announced.

For 2023, 25 products stood out for their quality, taste and innovation, while 92 products received one to three stars.

The evaluation was carried out by leading professionals in their field, as the jury included Michelin-awarded Greek chefs, chefs who serve Greek cuisine at a top level, professionals with experience in the use of Greek products, foragers and herb growers, specialized sommeliers, F&B Managers, creators of visual communication with important distinctions abroad and specialization in food, etc.

At this year’s event, the awards to the big winners were presented by:

The ceremony was followed by an event in which tastings were offered, curated by the tastemaker Mr. Haris Tzannis, president of the AFFA jury, consisting of the products awarded at the ceremony. The preparation of the tastes, the drinks and the hospitality of the guests were carried out with enviable professionalism by the students of the first deaf section of the HotelBrain Academy who are preparing to man the hotels of the Hotelbrain Group in a few weeks.

The largest exhibition of producers of artisanal products and delicatessen products, took place from Saturday 04 to Tuesday 07 February, at MEC PAIANIAS!

The award-winning exhibition EXPOTROF returned to the MEC exhibition center of Paiana, and the report of the exhibition closed with a positive sign despite the difficult weather conditions. At the opening that took place on the 1st day of the Exhibition, the Deputy Minister of Development and Investments, Mr. Nikos Papathanasis, the Deputy Minister of Rural Development & Food, Mr. Simos Kedikoglou, the Authorized Councilor of the Attica Region for Tourism, Mr. Thodoris Koutsogianopoulos, attended and addressed the greetings. The Attica Regional Councilor for Fisheries, Agricultural & Veterinary Policy, Mrs. Angelaki Dimitra, as well as the Head of Innovation and Outreach of the honored Central Macedonia Region, Mr. Sotiris Batos. In addition, the opening of the exhibition was graced by the presence of the Deputy Regional Governor of the Primary Sector, Thessaly Region, Mr. Billis Apostolos, the Deputy Regional Governor of the Primary Sector and Gastronomy, South Aegean Region, Mr. Zannetidis Filimonas, the Deputy Regional Governor of the Primary Sector, Region of Crete, Ms. Irini Houdetsanaki – Giakoumaki, the Deputy Regional Governor for Rural Development of Western Greece, Mr. Theodoros Vassilopoulos and the Deputy Regional Governor for Rural Economy and Rural Development of the Ionian Islands, Mr. Ioannis Armeniakos.

The 9th EXPOTROF – The Greek Fine Food Exhibition 2023 was attended by 275 companies and professionals from all over Greece involved in the primary production and marketing of food and beverages, as well as 10 companies from Italy in a special section. In terms of traffic, thousands of catering, wholesale trade and hotel industry professionals were registered.

As part of EXPOTROF 2023, more than 500 B2B meetings were held in the specially designed Buyers Square area with Greek and foreign companies from the hotel industry, such as HotelBrain, Mitsis Hotels, Atlantica Hotels & Resorts and Tor Hotel Group etc. From the catering sector, such as Tria Delta SA, wholesale, such as Hellinikes Hypermarkets Sklavenitis, Market In, Metro AEBE, Ok any Time Market, ANEDIK SA, distribution channels and export companies, such as AK INTERNATIONAL, THESMOS EMPORIKI OE, IREMIA, s.r.o. | Greek Market, P&P PROKOPIOU TRADING LTD, Dal Mare Group, EMPORIO EGNATIA and many more companies.

Parallel Events

On the stage of “Cooking Greece” with Ms. Eva Parakentakis as the main presenter and chef Kostas Bouyouris as the coordinator, 22 culinary events took place from the regions of Central Macedonia, Attica, Western Greece, Western Macedonia, North Aegean, South Aegean, Crete and Thessaly, while award-winning chefs presented unique signature dishes and cooking techniques.

At the same time, the Food Expert Stories section presented free workshops on contemporary topics with an emphasis on the local producer, as well as a discussion panel with the participation of leading professionals. Due to the extraordinary weather conditions, the AFFA 2023 Quality and Taste Awards ceremony has been postponed and will take place on a new date to be announced shortly. His talk on ‘The Future of Wine Tourism: Inspiring a New Future Together’ on Sunday 5 February at 12.30 puts the focus on the wine tourism industry, analyzing the present and future of the modern trend.

Jose Antonio Vidal, a great personality in the world of wine tourism internationally, will map during his presentation, the environment of the emerging form of tourism and highlight the prospects presented for everyone involved in the sector.

As part of the 9th EXPO, the president and CEO of the World Wine Tourism Organization, Jose Antonio Vidal, will present the Spirits & Beverages award at the AFFA 2023 awards ceremony.

A rich culinary program of parallel events full of knowledge, information and technique will take place at the 9th EXPO – The Greek Fine Food Exhibition, from February 4 to 6, 2023, at the MEC Paianas.

The 9th EXPO adopts a unique concept for domestic data, dedicating all days of the exhibition to modern culinary trends through three different stages. Information, technique and tasting is the triptych that characterizes this year’s events and is based on the three pillars of Sustainability, Farm to Table and Authenticity.

Two different awards will take place during the three days of the exhibition. On Sunday 5/2 at 18.00 the quality and taste awards of the Athens Fine Food Awards (AFFA) 2023 will be awarded, the only awards that honor and evaluate Greek food through the blind tasting process. Meanwhile, on Monday 6/2 at 3:30 p.m., the list of the 100 best restaurants in Greece for 2023 will be announced, as voted by the Dreaters audience.

A rich culinary program of parallel events will take place at the 9th EXPOTROF – The Greek Fine Food Exhibition, from February 4 to 6, 2023, at MEC Peanas.

The 9th EXPOTROF offers for the first year the opportunity to exhibitors/producers of alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages, participating in the Drink & Spirits section, or with an individual stand at the exhibition, to present their products in a specially designed Drink & Spirits Bar area

Each day of the exhibition, the producers will present their products, such as wine, beer, spirits or non-alcoholic beverages, at a predetermined time for free to the general public and professional visitors of the exhibition, through a tasting event or cocktail creations of their choice.

The 9th EXPOTROF – The Greek Fine Food Exhibition honors the Region of Central Macedonia this year.

Many professionals operating within the geographical boundaries of the Region will participate in the 9th EXPOTROF to present the “strong cards” of Central Macedonia, such as cheese products, olive oil, vinegar, juices, sweets and jams, sauces and pastries, and of course the wines of the region.
